Some of Our Favorite Books
December 04, 2008
The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
The first time I read this book as an adult, I thought it was a bit creepy but the kids love it and now I do too. Finding the baby bunny is always fun for us. Even my 4 year old still loves this book and knows all the words by heart. I'm sure they understand the message: Mommy will always be there.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr., John Archambault, and Lois Ehlert
This is a great way to learn the alphabet. My kids have both the long and short versions of the book and chant the song all the time. Even after reading it hundreds of times, they never tire of this classic book and we even "sing" the alphabet the Chicka Chicka way in the car.
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
There's something about bedtime routines that is incredibly comforting to toddlers. Going through the goodnights in Goodnight Moon so mirrors my little ones' own bedtime routine that they ask for this book night after night.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Shel Silverstein is one of our favorite authors. While my 4 year old may not quite understand the message of this book entirely, he puts himself in the place of the tree and wonders why the boy keeps taking and the tree keeps giving. But when I tell him that the tree and the boy love each other, he gets it.
Guess How Much I Love You by Sam Bratney
My little boys love to tell me how much they love me just like the Little Nutbrown Hare. Hearing those words always makes me tear up, just like the last page of this book.
